Last night, ESPN blogger Mike Jurecki tweeted that the Arizona Cardinals were in talks with wide receiver Braylon Edwards.

In 2010, Edwards caught 53 passes for 904 yards and seven touchdowns while playing for the New York Jets.  Now that Gang Green has re-signed Santonio Holmes and brought in Plaxico Burress, it’s a safe bet that Edwards will be on a new team this season.

If you think about it, Arizona is actually a great spot for the former Michigan Wolverine.  He would be paired with a top receiver in Larry Fitzgerald and would definitely have the right coach.  Let’s not forget that Ken Whisenhunt was the offensive coordinator for the Pittsburgh Steelers before taking the helm in Arizona.

Whisenhunt runs a pass-first offense, and if he and Edwards can get on the same page, the team could work its way to the top in the NFC West.

The only question mark in bringing Edwards to Arizona is the quarterback situation.  Kevin Kolb was recently acquired from the Philadelphia Eagles, and in his career starts thus far, he has not impressed much.  In four seasons, he has gone 3-4 with 11 touchdowns and 14 interceptions.

If Edwards is signed and then his stats suffer due to Kolb underachieving, then it will look like a bad contract.

Still, he is a top receiver, and if there is anything that can build up Kolb’s confidence, it is the pairing of Edwards with Fitzgerald.
